Sonix

The universal GUI client

comprises the most important functions in a single window. The client works at all instruments running Sonix + without changes. This is possible because all the instrument specifics are borrowed from the instrument configuration file, the Varman database and libraries of instrument and device operations. The information from the latter is obtained by using Python introspection ability.

Main components are:

• management of the instrumental setup
• experiment control
• monitoring of the experiment history (logging)
• online and offline spectra visualization.

There is also the interface to enter commands manually

Currently, the new interface is installed at approximately half of the IBR-2M instruments, and in the nearest future it will be transferred to the remaining instruments.

Especially the visualization widgets were used to develop several tuning programs for several instruments, namely:

• selecting the optimum position of the ring collimator (YuMO instrument)
• searching the reflected neutron flux (Remur, Reflex, Grains instruments)
• selecting the optimum operating voltage for the detectors (Epsilon instrument)

and as a specialized GUI for DN6 instrument.
