Measurement control actually implies interpretation of a script. There are other possibilities to enter commands manually.
The widget provides (see figure below):
- editing the script manually or with the help of a program generator, as far as available for particular instrument (some people prefere to use generators, others create scripts manually)
- syntax check of the script for errors
- running the script
Syntax check of the script is strongly recommended before execution. The testing comprises correctness of the formal syntax as well as the correctness of command parameters. It does not give a complete guarantee against mistakes, but essentially identifies input errors.
The upper panel shows the status of the experiment (Expo: green = running; yellow = suspended), as well as the reason for the suspend if there is one (e.g., red-coloured LED flag_beam_shutter indicates that the beam shutter is closed).
